5 Reasons to Play With Your Dog

May 15, 2020

Does your canine pal love to run and play? We’re guessing that, for many of you, the answer to that question is a resounding yes. As it turns out, playing isn’t just fun for Fido: it’s also very good for him! In this article, a Frisco, TX vet lists some great reasons to play with your pup regularly.

Exercise

Physical activity is just as important to dogs as it is for people. Running and jumping is great for Fido’s heart and lungs. It also helps keep his muscles strong. Just be sure to ask your vet for specific advice.

Mental Stimulation

Our canine companions are curious, active, and intelligent. Playing is a wonderful way to beat the bored-doggy blues, and give your playful pooch something to focus on. That mental stimulation is great for Fido’s mental and emotional health.

Better Behavior

You may have heard the saying ‘Tired dogs are good dogs.’ There is definitely some truth to this! Burning off your four-legged friend’s excess energy can really help in curbing bad behaviors. If Fido wears himself out chasing after a ball or Frisbee, he’ll probably be ready for a nap after. He’ll also be less likely to engage in bad behaviors, such as digging or chewing.

Bonding

Dogs can form truly amazing bonds with their human buddies. However, it’s important to nurture that friendship. One of the most important ways to do that is to simply spend time with your pooch. When you throw a ball or stick for Fido to chase, he’ll know that you are doing something just for him. This will help your pup feel loved and cared for, which will make him even more fond of you in return. Plus, you may find that spending some quality time with your furry best friend is a great way to wind down after a long day at work.

It’s Cute!

Man’s Best Friend is always super cute, but he’s never more adorable than when he’s feeling frisky and mischievous. Watching your pooch just running around enjoying himself is bound to put a smile on your face. In fact, doggy playtime may be as much fun for you as it is for Fido!
