Surprising Ways to Save Money on Pet Care

July 1, 2020
This year has been very rough on many folks economically. Our animal companions have been there for us through it all, offering friendship, comfort, entertainment, and, of course, cuddles. In addition to taking precautions to keep our staff and clients safe, we’re also happy to just offer some advice that may help. A Frisco, TX vet offers tips on saving money on pet care below.

Preventative Care

Keeping up with wellness care, such as vaccinations and parasite control, will protect your pet from dangerous insects and diseases. It’s both cheaper and easier to prevent issues than to treat them!

Spay/Neuter

Not only will your pet need more veterinary appointments if they’re expecting, you’ll also have more mouths to feed once those adorable puppies and kittens arrive. If your pet hasn’t been fixed yet, we recommend getting this done ASAP.

Petproofing

We probably don’t have to tell you that pets are quite prone to mischief. Making your home safe for your furry pal will go a long way towards preventing illness and injuries!

Toys

Toys aren’t just about entertainment for pets. Playthings keep your furry buddy occupied and out of trouble, and offer a healthy outlet for any angst they feel. If Fido doesn’t have proper toys, he may amuse himself by chewing or playing with something that isn’t safe. As for Fluffy, she can get quite stressed out if she’s bored. Keep that toybox full!

Tick Checks

Ticks carry dangerous diseases that can spread to both people and pets. These can be quite expensive to treat! Checking your pet daily greatly increases the chances of finding and removing ticks before they transmit anything.

Buying In Bulk

Buying in bulk can also reduce costs. There is a sweet spot here, though, when it comes to food. Don’t get too much, as it may go bad before you can use it. It’s also important to properly store dry food.

DIY

Did you know that you can make many of your pet’s things yourself? You can make Fido a rope toy out of an old tee-shirt, or turn an old stepladder into a cat tower for Fluffy. There are plenty more ideas online. This is also a great way to keep the kids entertained! As your Frisco, TX vet clinic, we’re happy to answer any questions about your pet’s health or care.
