7 Things Cats Hate

June 15, 2017
If there’s one thing we can say for sure about cats, it’s that they all have their own purrsonalities. Every one of our feline clients is unique, with their own adorable quirks, likes and dislikes, and opinions. However, as it turns out, many kitties do agree on quite a few things. Here, a Plano, TX vet lists some of Fluffy’s pet peeves.

Change

Cats are creatures of habit. If you watch Fluffy closely, you may find that she follows a strict routine for meals, naps, grooming, playtime, and cuddle sessions. Major changes, such as moving or getting a new owner, can be very stressful for kitties.

Loud Noises

Kitties like things calm, quiet, and peaceful. (This isn’t really very surprising, given how much time they spend napping.) If you ever drop a pan near your feline friend, don’t be surprised if you notice Fluffy making a beeline for her favorite hiding spot.

Water

While there are definitely some kitties that did not get this memo, such as the Bengal, most cats absolutely hate getting wet. To be fair, there is a good reason for this: deep or running water can be very dangerous for our feline pals!

Too Much Attention

Many kitties are very affectionate, and love to cuddle up with their humans. But not too much. When your furball decides she is done snuggling, just let her go.

Not Enough Attention

Although cats don’t like too much attention, not paying enough attention to your kitty is also a serious misstep. Fluffy hates being ignored!

Improper Attention

In addition to making sure you are paying Fluffy the correct amount of attention, it’s also important to make sure you are offering the right kind of attention. Some kitties like to be held and cuddled. Others prefer to be admired from a distance. Let your pet set the rules!

Car Rides

While Fido may think car rides are the best thing ever—aside from naps, belly rubs, bacon, walks, and toys—Fluffy could not disagree more. (Tip: to make trips easier for your feline buddy, make sure that her carrier contains soft bedding and toys, keep a window cracked, and play the radio softly. You can also ask your vet about using cat-calming products, such as sprays.) Is your cat due for veterinary care? Contact us today! As your Plano, TX animal clinic, we are here to help!
