For Dr. Shelley Michalk, veterinary medicine was never just a career—it was the perfect intersection of science, nature, and her lifelong love for animals. A native of San Marcos, Texas, she earned her undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University and was accepted into Texas A&M’s College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduating, she returned home to work at the same clinic that cared for her childhood pets—a full-circle moment that deepened her commitment to compassionate care.

In 2003, Dr. Michalk and her family moved to Dallas, where she joined Coit Hedgcoxe Animal Hospital. Over the years, she’s become a trusted presence in the community, caring for generations of pets and building long-standing relationships with clients. Today, she proudly leads the hospital as its owner, guiding her team with warmth, experience, and dedication to patient-first care.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Michalk enjoys gardening, beach days, and running—she still holds an unbeaten track record from her time at Texas Tech! Her Blue Heeler, Gypsy, comes to work with her daily, alongside a pack of Gypsy’s puppies and several rescued cats who keep life lively at home.

For Dr. Michalk, veterinary medicine is more than a profession—it’s a lifelong passion rooted in compassion, curiosity, and a genuine love for animals and the people who care for them.
